Materials Needed
The following materials are required to make a plug-in pendant light in the UK:
- Light Socket
- Bulb
- Shade or Lamp
- Wire (2 core flex, 2 metres)
- Plug with cable clip
- Two-core cord grip strain relief (optional)
Steps to Make a Plug-in Pendant Light in the UK
Step 1: Prepare the Materials
Before you start, make sure that all the materials are ready. Choose a shade or lamp that will fit with the bulb and light socket. The wire must be of high quality and have a two-core flex. The cable clip and cord grip strain relief are optional – but recommended for safety.
Step 2: Wire the Socket
Remove the insulation from both ends of the two-core flex wire. Attach one end of the wire to the light socket terminal. Connect the Live (Brown wire) to the contact on the inside of the threaded screw terminal, and the neutral wire (Blue wire) to the contact on the outer side of the threaded screw terminal. Tighten the screws to hold the wire securely.
Step 3: Attach the Plug
Attach the plug to the other end of the wire. Make sure to thread the wire through the cable clip and add the cord grip strain relief if needed. The cord grip strain relief is important to keep the wire securely attached to the plug’s terminals.
Step 4: Attach the Shade or Lamp
Attach the shade or lamp to the light socket. Make sure it’s secure and stable. Turn on the light and check whether the bulb is working properly.
